Jawdat Kour: Keeping us safe and sound

What gives Jawdat meaning is the impact he and his colleagues have on everyday life in Sweden. They keep technology we surround ourselves with safe from threats.

Jawdat started his career at Tieto in 2023 as an information security consultant. He and his team handle challenges, threats and new technologies for several clients.

- We help secure critical infrastructure and services people rely on daily – myself included. In some ways you could say that I allow people to take lots of things for granted. It gives me a great sense of purpose.

Jawdat’s started in a DevSecOps role where he worked on integrating security into the software development lifecycle of a telecoms company.

- IT security has become an integral part of the digital transformation and organizations are finding it essential to embed security by design. It’s not an add-on anymore. This is partly due to external threats but also stricter regulations in the EU, like NIS2, CER and DORA.

He has also worked on several cloud security projects, ensuring secure cloud architecture and applying best practice in IAM, data protection and monitoring.

An evolving industry driven by new security challenges

The increased importance of IT security tells a tale of a field that has gone through big changes the past years.

- The IT security field is constantly evolving, with new challenges almost daily. It makes for an interesting workday and gives room for ample knowledge development and growth. In the two years I have been here I have had a steep learning curve from the projects I have been involved in, but also through certifications and trainings.

As for the changes to come, Jawdat sees big developments within AI.

- If I must predict where the biggest changes will come in the next years, I will have to say automation and AI driven defences. At the same time, we must not forget or underplay the human factor, where user awareness, training and ethical decision will remain crucial for years to come.

A nordic work culture built on openness, trust and diversity

When asked to describe the working culture at Tieto, Jawdat describes it as very Nordic in nature.

- By Nordic I mean that it’s built on trust, equality and openness. I value that highly and know that it’s not a culture you can find in all organizations.

Jawdat feels that he has been given freedom and flexibility.

- Anything from working remotely or managing my own schedule – we are trusted as employees. We can also explore new areas of interest. The freedom we are given comes with a sense of responsibility mind you, and it motivates me to do my best. When I’m given freedom, I want to return great work.

Another aspect of the culture is one of collaboration.

- We are eager to help each other and see us succeed. Success is not a net-zero game, where one colleague’s success means another one’s failure. On the contrary, we win together and have a strong sense of community.

And whenever he needs a break from work, he can gaze outside his office window towards the Öland bridge, an iconic symbol of the city of Kalmar.
