Daisy Gaona: building better software through curiosity and quality

When Daisy Gaona first discovered computers as a teenager, she felt she had uncovered an entirely new universe. That curiosity has grown into a career spanning nearly two decades in technology. Her path reflects how continuous learning, resilience and collaboration can shape a meaningful career—and how quality, when built with intention, becomes a cornerstone of successful software.

From Curiosity to a Career in Quality

Although Daisy once dreamed of becoming an architect, technology quickly captured her imagination. "It felt like discovering a new universe," she recalls. She pursued a degree in Systems Analysis and continued building her expertise through postgraduate studies, a master's degree and international certifications, embracing lifelong learning throughout her career.

Her career began in systems analysis and design, but about 20 years ago she found her true passion in Quality Assurance. Since then, working across different companies and industries has shown her that quality goes far beyond testing. Working across industries has taught her how to improve quality throughout the software development lifecycle, helping teams identify risks earlier and build more reliable products. "It's about understanding products, anticipating risks and working closely with teams to build better software."

Purpose Through Collaboration

Today, what Daisy values most is being part of a team united by a shared purpose.

"The best thing about my role is truly feeling part of something meaningful," she says.

For Daisy, that means working alongside colleagues to build reliable software that customers can trust. It's the combination of collaboration, continuous learning and shared ownership that gives her work purpose.

Building Quality—and Opportunity

One lesson has stayed with Daisy throughout her career: quality cannot be added at the end—it must be built from the very beginning. That belief shapes how she approaches every project, focusing on prevention, collaboration and shared ownership rather than simply finding defects.

The same philosophy guides her views on inclusion. Having started her career in an industry where women were often underrepresented in technical roles, Daisy knows that confidence grows fastest when it's matched by opportunity. She encourages women to trust their abilities and seize new challenges, while organizations create environments where everyone has the chance to grow, lead and be recognized.

Her advice to women considering a career in technology is straightforward: "Go for it." Curiosity, determination and the willingness to learn matter far more than having every answer from the start.

Looking Ahead

Always eager to learn, Daisy is currently exploring how Agentic AI can transform Quality Assurance, fascinated by its potential to enhance quality processes and support better decision-making throughout the software development lifecycle.

Outside of work, she finds balance in nature. Despite spending her days immersed in technology, she feels most inspired when she's outdoors—a reminder that sometimes the best way to recharge is by disconnecting.
