Leo Vaskelainen, Customer Director

I’m Leo Vaskelainen and I work as a Customer Director at Tietoevry Create in Finland.

My journey with Tietoevry began in 2019 when I joined Tietoevry Banking, bringing my passion for technology and finance together. After few years, I decided to explore new horizons, taking on the role of Head of Banking at a smaller Finnish IT company. The experience was invaluable, as I gained firsthand insight into how leaner organizations innovate, prioritize, and compete in a fast-evolving industry.

However, something kept pulling me back. In 2024, I returned, this time to Tietoevry Create, where I now work as Customer Director. And from day one, it felt like coming home.

Today, I focus on managing relationships and driving business growth for selected banking customers. My role spans across multiple regions, where I collaborate closely with customers to understand their needs, deliver innovative digital solutions, and support their transformation journeys.

Why I returned: more than just a workplace

Unmatched employee benefits. Tietoevry’s benefits go beyond the standard. From summer cottages, to car and bike benefits, gyms, co-working spaces, online shops, and more, all of which make work-life integration smoother.

The best people in the industry. The people here at Tietoevry Create are true industry experts. You don’t just talk tech, you talk about trends, regulations, and the real business behind banking (or any industry). That’s what customers really value. Customers today want more than just IT solutions, they want partners who understand their world, and Tietoevry Create delivers that.

Meaningful projects with lasting impact. With roots dating back to 1968, Tietoevry has not just survived but thrived through decades of technological change. Working here means contributing to solutions that stand the test of time, backed by credibility, trust, and numerous success stories.

What did you miss the most?

International environment. The international vibe and the diversity at Tietoevry, colleagues from different cultures and backgrounds, brings fresh perspectives to every project and discussion.

Vierumäki cottage. My wife and I love escaping to Tietoevry Vierumäki cottage for remote work surrounded by nature. It’s the perfect blend of productivity and relaxation, without the hassle of owning a summer home!

What surprised you after your return? Has something changed?

I was mainly surprised by how deeply embedded Tietoevry Create is in the banking industry. Having previously worked in Tietoevry Banking, which focuses more on software products and platforms for specific banking functions, I was impressed to see how Tietoevry Create is involved across a wide range of banking initiatives, projects, and units, from payments to customer service, from financial crime prevention to digital banking solutions, from artificial intelligence to cards and much more.

It's a broader, more integrated presence that centers around software development and digital engineering at scale.

And while not exactly a surprise, I was reminded of the strong work ethic across the organization. There’s a real sense that everyone here strives to be just a little better than they were yesterday, and that mindset is both inspiring and contagious.

What do you value the most at Tietoevry?

Trust and autonomy. I’m empowered to lead, experiment, and drive results, with a supportive team and leadership that truly care. I have the tools I need, and the freedom to use them in the way I know works best.

I also appreciate that we look at the big picture here. Yes, we deliver quarterly targets, but we also explore, invest, improve, and adapt to meet future customer needs. That balance is rare and incredibly motivating.

What greetings do you have for Tietoevry alumni considering a return?

If you’ve left Tietoevry and are wondering about returning – take the leap. The culture, the people, and the opportunities here are hard to match. I did, and it’s been one of the best decisions of my career. Let’s reconnect, welcome back!
